Summary, etc. "Church of the Poor" is a vision of the Philippine Church towards renewal. The promulgation of PCP-II is a turning point in the history of the Philippine Church. Through the vision of becoming a "Church of the Poor" the Philippine Church is ready to respond to the present situation. As "Church of the Poor" the poor are no longer seen as objects of charity but are also called and empowered to become agents of evangelization However, the vision of becoming a "Church of the Poor" has been misunderstood by people. They are not aware of its true meaning, depth, and effective implication in the present situation. It is the hope of the researcher to inculcate in the minds and hearts of Filipinos what it is to be a "Church of the Poor", as exemplified by Jesus Christ in the Philippine context as a sign of a renewed Church. The vision of becoming a "Church of the Poor is a challenging declaration of the Philippine Church. It involves renewal on the part of the clergy, religious and the laity in terms of their lifestyle and roles in the life and ministry of the Church. They are known as agents of renewal for they are called to follow Jesus' life and ministry, It also mvolves collaboration that will enable them to work in unity towards a renewed Church. Thus, without their authentic renewal it will be difficult for the Church to respond to the signs of the time. Becoming a "Church of the Poor" is a response to the present situation. The Basic Ecclesial Communities (BEC) are manifestations of how it is to be a "Church of the Poor." The people who are involved in BEC lived as community, devoted in the celebration of the Eucharist and in prayer, practiced sharing particularly those who are in need. This is indeed a manifestation of a renewed Church and a response to prevailing issue wherein majority of the people are poor.
