The thesis study presently assesses the designation of Our Lady of Ransom Parish as Diocesan Shrine in Tarlac using canons 1230-1234. The discussion runs from the exposition of the Shrine then to the understanding of the canonical norms and lastly the assessment proper. The study uncovers first the history and appropriate documents of the Shrine and Parish. The 63-year-old parish was designated shrine on February 24, 2018 through a decree signed by the Most. Rev. Enrique V. Macaraeg. It is one of the eight shrines in the Diocese.
The discussion is followed by a thorough study of the five canonical norms regarding shrines. Firstly, canon 1230 gives the definition of a shrine. Secondly, according to canon 1231, the different classifications of shrines are diocesan, national and international. Thirdly, the construction of statutes is laid down by canon 1232 Fourthly, canon 1233 speaks of granting privileges to shrines. Lastly, canon 1234 lays assessment of the Shrine is carried out therein. down the pastoral roles of shrines. Having enough background of the canons, Fortunately, there are conformities and sorry to say some loopholes or irregularities in it. The Shrine's overall status will still have its long way to development in conformity to the canons. As the Shrine was assessed there arise a pressing concern for the other shrines in the Diocese to be evaluated also. In addition, the policy of the Diocese in designating shrines should be reviewed. Nevertheless, these can still be managed and improved if given special attention.
