520 _aThis study aims to explore the Eucharist as Praxis of Social Justice in Nueva Segovia. It points out the theological connection of the Eucharist and social justice Moreover, the researcher evaluates the implication of the said theological connection in the life and situation of the local church of Nueva Segovia. This opus attempts to inspire the clergy and the faithful to broaden their understanding of the Eucharist in response to the societal issues of the times especially the social problems of the local Church of Nueva Segovia. It presents suggestions on how to celebrate the Liturgy of the Eucharist relevant and responsive to the situation of the people. Chapter II articulates the correlation of the Eucharist and the praxis of social justice. The discussion revolves on the biblical foundation of their relationship and its application on the lives of the early Christian communities. Subsequently, it looks into the historical background of their connection. Key notes are taken from the early Church Fathers, the contributions of the Liturgical Movement spearheaded by Virgl Michel, and the development which Vatican II presents with regard to their link Lastly, recent papai documents concerning the Eucharist and social justice are explored. Chapter III presents the situation of the Archdiocese of Nueva Segovia. The discussion revolves on three main topics First, a short historical background of the local church is presented. Second, the proceedings of the Archdiocesan Eucharistic Congress of 1987 and the First Nueva Segovia Pastoral Assembly are highlighted as significant advents of renewal and updating. Third, the contemporary economic, political, cultural, and religious situation of the archdiocese is articulated Chapter IV, which is the balk of this thesis, articulates how the Eucharist can become a praxis of social justice in the situation of the local church of Nueva Segovia. It revolves around four propositions. First, it presents the liturgical paradigm of the Eucharist and social justice. It argues that in order for the people to develop the spirit to attend to the social injustices prevalent in the archdiocese, there is a need to highlight the social justice motifs present in major parts of the Mass. Second, it discusses about the transformative characteristics of the Eucharist. It shows that those who partake of the one bread and one chalice in the Eucharist develop a Christ-like attitude towards injustices, imbibe in them a moral conversion to help the poor and marginalize, and are being sent as missionaries of justice and peace. Third, it speaks how the Eucharist that does social justice is being lived in the areas of community and social life. Fourth, it highlights the role of the clergy in realizing a Eucharistic spirituality as praxis of social justice.
