520 _aThe Congregation for the Clergy has recently released the new Ratio Fundamentalis Institutionis Sacerdotalis which is a document on priestly formation. This new document strongly encourages all the episcopal conferences to come up with their own Ratio Nationalis patterned after this. Because of this, the Church in the Philippines is currently updating its program of priestly formation in the spirit of the new Ratio Fundamentalis Institutionis Sacerdotalis. This thesis is an attempt to participate in the ongoing discussions on priestly formation The Holy Eucharist is a spirituality. The Holy Eucharist is more than a sacrament. It goes beyond mere celebration and ritual. It ought to be translated into one's life. The celebration of the Holy Eucharist should touch all the aspects of the lives of those who partake of it, their way of thinking and doing. What is celebrated should be lived and acted upon in concrete circumstances. It ought to be the substance and essence of the Christian life. This study is inspired by a humble desire to see how the Holy Eucharist as a spirituality challenges the formation in the Configuration Stage. The Configuration Stage is the last stretch of initial formation within the seminary walls before a candidate finally receives sacred ordination. This particular stage of formation envisions men to be configured to Christ, His way of life, His attitudes, His way of thinking, His behavior, His compassion and love-His very person. The Holy Eucharist is an indispensable part of the daily life of seminarians in the Configuration Stage. The Holy Eucharist challenges the formation of future priests. It ought to be the powerhouse of the Configuration Stage and continues to inspire and challenge the candidates. Through it, the seminarians are given an example of how to become truly configured to Christ. This thesis aims at aiding seminarians towards the goal of becoming configured to Christ and the challenges of the Holy Eucharist in the attainment of this goal.
