This study assessed the supervisory practices of head teachers of the secondary schools in the First District of La Union. Specifically, it sought to find the extent of realization of the head teachers' duties and responsibilities and responsibilities and instructional supervisory practices; and the problems encountered by head teachers in supervision. This study utilized the mixed approach. It used the descriptive method of research with questionnaire and interview guide in order to gather the essential data. This study covered eight public secondary schools in the six municipalities of the First District of La Union. Weighted mean and ranking were the statistical tools used in the study. The supervisory practices of the head teachers along duties and responsibilities and instructional supervision were highly realized. On duties and responsibilities, the problems encountered in supervision were along department-based training as a result of training needs analysis, implementing innovations and alternative delivery schemes, among others. On instructional supervisory practices, the problems were along sharing the latest research findings on teaching-learning with the staff and using knowledge and skills in effective instructional strategies, among others. A supervisory plan was proposed to address the problems to improve supervisory practices. It was concluded that the head teachers are very good supervisors but are faced with constraints in their administrative and instructional supervision and that the supervisory plan is implementable.
