The study employed the quasi-experimental research design. Ten intact groups (first year sections) were used as subjects of this study and five groups each were randomly assigned to the experimental group (Reader's Theater group) and to the control group. The independent variable for this study was method of teaching the literature component of English 1 and this study was specifically interested in the effect of the use of Reader's Theater to student performance in English 1.
The study may also be considered developmental in nature because it developed a sourcebook on Reader's Theater using the findings of the study as basis.
